Mobility Scooter Rider, 81, Struck, Killed On Jersey Shore: Police

UPDATED: An 81-year-old man riding a four-wheel mobility scooter was struck and killed by a pickup truck in Ocean County, authorities said.

The collision with a Ford F-150 pickup occurred at about 9:25 p.m. on Monday, April 11 at Jackson Mills and Harmony roads in Jackson Township, police said. 

EMS crews found an unresponsive person who had been struck by a car, reports said. EMS administered CPR before the rider was pronounced dead, according to an unconfirmed report. 

The victim's name has not been released. 

The 64-year-old pickup truck driver was not impaired or injured, according to police. No charges had been filed.

Police said the area is dimly lit and the scooter's rider was wearing dark clothing.

“The scooter did have some reflective stickers on it but was not equipped with any functioning lights,” police said in a statement.

Police temporarily closed the roadway for the crash investigation.
